OUR STORY

The Art Robe epitomizes the concept of “turning art into attire”.

We paint and print textural and abstract artwork onto fabric yardage, through prints and freestyle strokes in vibrant hues and metallic highlights.

Style is eternal but so is comfort. At The Art Robe, we ensure we use the finest quality of pure silks and cotton blends. Every inch of the white base fabric used is hand-painted and printed. The fabrics are then styled in angular cuts and dreamy drapes, with artistic placements and accents creating a unique look.

Luxury in its truest sense, we create limited pieces of each style to ensure that your attire creates an everlasting impression!

BRAND PHILOSOPHY

Every soul is unique, just like a piece of art. At The Art Robe, each ensemble is adorned with a curation of signature strokes, textural layers, and a play of colours, speaking their own story.

Printed and painted art expressed on fabric in eclectic styles is “art to wear” for you!

CREATING AN ART ROBE ENSEMBLE

INSPIRATION
Being inspired leads to creativity - one finds inspiration from many sources to deliver an expression with a difference. We begin with visionary outlines, background drama and textures derived from our inspiration board.

FABRIC
The fabrics are pre-washed and degummed to remove starch and chemical coatings. Yards of fabric are then rolled out and laid onto tables.

COLOUR
The fabrics are painted with base binders and dyes. Every fabric blend requires a different combination of catalysts, fixers, and emulsifiers for adhering. Our dyes, pigments and binders are of international repute and free of phthalate and hazardous chemicals.

FINISHES
Once the designs are delivered onto the fabric, we use steaming and calendaring as curing processes for fixation. Softeners render the final beauty and flow of the fabrics.

FREE HAND ART

A moment of freedom to express - the artist brings the amalgamation of all the ideas drawn from the inspiration board to life, freehand onto fabric.
An array of tools like brushes and spades, allows the addition of different textures that render character to the final ensemble.

SCREEN PRINT BY HAND

From sketches to screens - The hand-oriented technique of hand printing in the textiles industry is a vintage one and a novelty in this digital age.

Prints are developed from black and white sketches and artworks. The sketches are then transferred through a light-sensitive emulsion onto metal frames, known as a screen. The screen helps to deliver the print of the artwork, with colours and dyes squeezed onto the fabric by hand. Multiple screens can be layered to create a detailed image, creating designs from paper to screen.

ACCENTS

True luxury lies in the details! Through freehand highlights, final touches are given to the artwork to bring out depth and drama. The metallic hints, especially, are a distinct feature of The Art Robe, and a medley of embroideries and surface ornamentation gives each ensemble an entity of its own. Our distinctive accents complete our story.

MEET THE FOUNDERS

THE ARTIST

Malaa Treon is the lead artist of The Art Robe, a textile designer who began her journey with hand painting in her home studio. From brushes to spades, Malaa found her love for abstract art in textures and strokes that speak.

She hails from Africa, has studied in Bengaluru and New Delhi and has completed her masters in London. Being a stylized gypsy, her travels have brought about a fusion of different cultures that are visible in her designs.

Her fondness for sketching, fascination for colours and textures has become a lifelong obsession that she expresses through the label today. The artist believes, “Create wearable art such that when worn, it is brought to life and is captured by many more eyes!”

THE FASHION DESIGNER

Rakhi Sethi, a fashion designer by profession, is the lead designer & stylist of The Art Robe. On completion of her graduation from SOFT Pune, Rakhi went on to work with Anchal Apparels in Mumbai - a production hub for global luxury brands such as Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, and Sachin & Babi, to name a few. After this hands-on industry experience, Rakhi decided to bring her own creativity to life in creating “art to wear” with Malaa.

As the fashionista of The Art Robe, Rakhi likes to create statement ensembles with drapes that allow the art to speak. Her design aesthetics are simple silhouettes that dominate placements, and her fresh and innovative ideas bring a contemporary essence to The Art Robe.

From designing to the final execution of the garment, Rakhi is attributed to bringing in the ‘wearability’ of the art.
